Company – Embody, Inc (www.embody-inc.com) is a fast-growing medical device manufacturer based in Norfolk, VA.  Embody is a commercial-stage company pioneering the next generation in collagen-based tendon and ligament healing for the fast-growing sports medicine market. Founded in 2014, the company is developing unique biomaterials with an initial focus on orthopedic applications including Achilles, rotator cuff and knee ligament repair.

 

Job purpose – The senior accountant position is an on-site position that will report to the Director of Finance.  The ideal candidate will be familiar with GAAP accounting policies, have 5+ years of accounting experience and work well within team environments.  This newly created role will take on many responsibilities including: month-end close, GAAP financial reporting, daily GL/AP transactions, account reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting, ad hoc reporting, and assisting with vendor management.   The senior accountant position supports the entire business and will require effective communication and interaction of each department within the company.  The senior accountant role will further participate in the annual physical inventory process and audit preparations.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Ensure integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions
  • Prepare and support month-end close including data gathering, analysis, journals, reporting and account reconciliations
  • Assist with the day-to-day activities of AP, AR and Procurement
  • Daily cash management
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation and assist with periodic inventories
  • Assist with fixed assets and depreciation schedules
  • Assist in preparation of budgeting and forecasting by collaborating with Demand Planning and other departments
  • Support annual financial audit
  • Payroll backup and assist as necessary
  • Support tax filings by data gathering and preparing schedules
  • Documenting new policies and procedures, and contributing to further improve internal controls
  • Assist in identifying potential process improvements
  • May perform other financial or special projects/analysis as required by business needs

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems.  Specific experience with NetSuite, SalesForce, and Paylocity is a plus
  • Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to problem solve
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work efficiently and to consistently meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working with cross functional groups with staff from all educational and professional backgrounds

 

Working conditions

  • Full time, 5 days a week
  • On-site office setting
