Senior Research Associate / Postdoctoral Researcher

Embody, Inc. (Norfolk, VA), a commercial stage company biomanufacturing the next generation of medical devices for soft tissue repair and regeneration is recruiting a highly motivated, talented and enthusiastic researcher with experience in cell and molecular biology, and regenerative medicine to join our R&D Team. This salaried, full-time position will offer you the opportunity to take responsibility for independent and industry team-based research at the state-of-the-art field in advanced biomaterials and additive manufacturing for medical device and therapeutic development. Job Responsibilities: 

  • Perform, analyze, interpret and present experiments independently and in a team
  • Perform, lead and assist with animal surgical models
  • Lead and assist with 2D and 3D cell culture experiments, including stem cell culture studies
  • Lead and assist with chemical and molecular assays (SDS-PAGE, qPCR, protein quantification, …)
  • Lead and assist with bioreactor cell culture studies
  • Lead and assist with setting up and conducting experiments, data collection, analysis and presentation.
  • Perform advanced imaging, including SEM, TEM, fluorescence and confocal microscopy
  • Perform and analyze advanced biomechanical testing, biomaterial testing, proteomic and chemical analyses, per ASTM, USP and ISO guidelines where applicable
  • Supports research laboratory excellence by maintaining electronic lab notebooks, GLPs, SOPs
  • Assist in protocol development, report writing, and manuscript preparation
  • Occasional travel to local and national labs

Job Duties: 

  • Documents information by maintaining daily electronic lab notebooks, logs and equipment record books, and ensure GLP operation of the lab
  • Contributes to intellectual property development
  • Contributes to grant applications, grant progress reports, scientific report, test method validations and associated writing
  • Resolves problems by examining and evaluating data; on own initiative selecting corrective steps
  • Completes projects by assisting project team; attending and participating in group and project meetings
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, such as advanced training and conference participation and reading and sharing technical publications
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs


  • Sr. Research Associate: Master’s degree or Minimum 2 years’ experience working in an industry lab
  • Postdoctoral fellow: Ph.D. in related field of study, industry experience preferred
  • Passion for science, medicine, and translating your research into real-world, clinical treatments
  • Exceptional computer skills (Excel, Word, statistical software skills requisite. Programming skills a plus)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
